Zip Programs:

If you need a program to decompress files downloaded from the Internet, have a look at this list of programs. Popular programs include WinZip or PKUNZIP for Windows. Mac users should be sure to have StuffIt Expander.

PC

PKWARE is the originator of the ZIP file format. Their offerings include command line driven tools as well as GUI tools. http://www.pkware.com/

Stuffit Expander is the decompression program for the Mac. With Expander Enchancer (It is installed when you install DropStuff) you can expand a LOT of formats! http://www.aladdinsys.com/

ZipIt is a Macintosh program that zips and unzips archives in a format fully compatible with PKZip for the IBM and zip implementations on other systems. http://www.awa.com/softlock/zipit/zipit.html

FTP programs:
FTP is the process by which you transfer files across the internet, from computer to computer. This is the traditional way people publish web pages, by copying the files from their computer to a web server.
The best PC FTP program is probably WS_FTP. You can find the nearest place to download it for your version of Windows at www.shareware.com. In addition some versions of Windows 95 provide a basic FTP program. (You can locate it by using 'Find' or try typing 'FTP' in the 'Run...' window.)
We at VSSD use CuteFTP program and would highly recommend it. Download CuteFTP from either http://www.tucows.com or http://www.cuteftp.com.

The best Macintosh FTP program could be one of two: Fetch or Anarchie. Anarchie takes a little more effort to get working properly, but provides the most features and the nicest interface. Find the nearest place to download them at www.shareware.com.

Graphical Programs:

Photoshop is considered the industry standard, but for those with less money to spend, Paint Shop Pro is considered a good bet. http://www.jasc.com/

PhotoImpact from Ulead Systems is also an excellent inexpensive product. Highly recommend it for beginners and advanced users. http://www.ulead.com
